Sally Piper
Sally Piper is a freelance writer living in Brisbane, Australia. Her short stories, poetry and non-fiction articles have been published in both Australia and the UK, appearing in writing journals, literary magazines and a broadsheet newspaper. She has also had a prize-winning short story appear in the One Book Many Brisbanes anthology and has had other fiction and non-fiction work placed or shortlisted in competitions in Australia and the UK. Her novel, At Mother's Elbow, was shortlisted in the 2011 Queensland Premier's Literary Award in the Emerging Queensland Author category.
She has been involved with the editing of government documents, tutoring in university creative writing programs, judging a literary competition, delivering author talks and for many years has provided structural editing, feedback and critiquing services to other professional writers.
In 2007 she completed a Post-graduate Diploma in Creative Writing and in 2011 went on to earn a MA in Creative Writing, both from the Queensland University of Technology.
Her non-fiction writing relates mainly to travel. She has spent time travelling in Australia, Asia, Europe, North America, sailing throughout the Pacific, and lived and worked in the UK for 12 years.
Prior to becoming a writer Sally was a registered nurse for 18 years; the last ten spent working in neurosurgical critical care units in Australia and the UK.
Her other interests include yoga, food culture, the theatre, literature and all things related to the writing process. Her passion for writing is stirred by personal experience and by the experiences of others. It is the moments of discovery, truth, sadness, joy and wonder which she tries to capture in words.
